Problem getting pain meds?

How many have had issues getting pain medications? Has it been a struggle to convince your doctor that your pain is real and has become unbearable?

  1. 22 years and still no help. Even though I have had numerous specialist state I need medicine for chronic pain.😔

    1. I have seen over 200 doctors, it took 14 years to get diagnosed. Which makes no sense when my aunt, brother and now niece all have it. Then after going to over 9 different pain clinics this is what I was told by the addiction psychologist that due to my family not me drugs history they were concerned with me becoming addict to any of the medications they wanted to prescribed which was fentynal and methadone. I thought to myself why such strong drugs why not something more simpler. Mind you this is after they said I was a good candidate because I had a solid work history, family support and over 14 years of individual counciling not mandated by anyone but myself to help with all my pain, stress and depression over my illness. And they still denied me. So I had a partner and he was an addict and he said let's go to the methadone clinic and see what happens and he gave me his urine so that I may get methadone for my pain. I have been on it now 3 years and I tell you my pain is gone I have no pain unless I over due it. Yes,I know it was wrong to go about it this way but I wasn't putting any drug in my body that wasn't prescribed. So I take methadone for pain, I smoke cannabis to eat and sleep. And so far I have had the best 3 years of my whole 53 years of being alive. I firmly believe i had lupus as a child and it went undiagnosed.

    2. I am so sorry you and we all have to go threw this due to others abusing the system or the medications or even the doctors. Its not fair to the ones who actually are following the rules. I pray that one day it gets better for you wether a pain clinc opens up in your town or by some miracle god saves us from this disease know we are all here for you and your not alone love.

  2. No, they say that because I'm a good girl they do not want to prescribe anything that I may become addicted to is what I was told. To be exact they said that because i have never been in a detox, arrested, have a solid work history, counseling and family support. They were concerned about prescribing anything. This is after 21 emergency room visit in one year. This was told to me by a addiction psychology and the Pain Dr. At this point i take tylenol and lay in bed. It's sad, detrimental to me. I am full of so much energy its unheard of and all I may do is be a prisoner in my home and mind. Thank you

    1. That’s crazy. That should be an indication that you wouldn’t abuse the pain meds. Most doctors cannot write prescriptions for pain. You normally have to go to a Pain Management center.

    2. I'm concerned that someone would call you a "good girl" because does that mean the provider believes people who get pain medications are bad people?

  3. I have seen more than 200 hundred doctors and specialists. Its just sickening

  4. I am so sorry you are going through this. It's such a big issue for people who honestly are dealing with so much pain. I hope you find a doctor that will understand your needs and help you to find some relief. I know this is so hard to deal with. ~Racquel~ lupus.net(Team Member)

    1. I'm coming off Medrol (a steroid) and I'm having a weight issue as well. As for tramadol..🤢. It really didn't help and it took a long time to detox.

    2. , I'm sorry you're dealing with Medrol related wieght gain. I know it can be a real pain in the rear. I hope you don't experience increased pain or inflammation as you taper down the Medrol and that you are able to drop some of those extra pounds, should you want to.
